Frigidaire 70-Pint Dehumidifier - Perfect for a Damp Basement?
The Frigidaire 70 pint dehumidifier was designed for medium sized rooms. Typically, most people will buy one for their basement since depending on where you live humidity can be a huge problem if you don't keep it under control.
When dealing with humidity it's very important that you get a dehumidifier that will be able to handle the area that you need. Do not buy a cheap one that is only designed for small rooms if you have a large basement. You will just end up spending more money dealing with mold and other problems.
Listed below are the specifications from the manufacturer:
- Dehumidifies 70 pints per day in medium size area
- Continuous operation if the unit is located near a drain
- Complete portability with easily accessed collection container
- Washable filter removes both moisture and airborne particulates
- Low temperature operation
Frigidaire 70 Pint Dehumidifier Review
I recently replaced my old dehumidifier with the Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70-Pint Dehumidifier to use in my basement. I have a decent size basement about 40X50 feet and humidity has always been a problem. I've been dealing with mildew and mold problems for years. I was lucky if I could get the humidity below 70% with my old dehumidifier and finally decided it was time to upgrade my old one.
The one thing I really like about this dehumidifier is that it's easy to hook up a drain hose and use it on continuous operation. I've been able to keep the humidity below 60% and I've even had it below 50% at times. Now, if you have a humidity problem in your basement you know that having a dehumidifier that works well is crucial.
Pros:
- Continuous operation
- Relatively quiet
- Low maintenance
- Hose hook up for drain
- Does a good job lowering the humidity
Cons:
- Bucket can be a little difficult to remove and empty
- 2 Gallon bucket
The question is whether or not it is the best choice for you? First off you should know that the 70 pint refers to the amount of water it pulls out of the air per day, not the bucket capacity. I highly recommend that you have an accessible drain to hook the dehumidifier up to, to save yourself the hassle of having to empty it regularly. The bucket size is 2 gallons which is typical for most dehumidifiers. What you may not realize is that you will be emptying it a lot if you don't hook it up to a drain.
The one thing you need to remember is that this is not an air filter. If you have a problem with mold spores you will need to take care of that problem otherwise it may end up clogging up the filter on the dehumidifier. Overall I have been very happy with the Frigidaire 70 pint dehumidifier. It has definitely been an excellent product so far and I confidently recommend it.
Here's what one reviewer had to say about the Frigidaire 70 Pint Dehumidifier:
P. Comeau: I bought the 70pint version last year after my old dehumidifier died and I started getting mold and mildew in my basement. I have a 200 year old home with a basement approximately 5 feet below ground depth so fairly damp...See Full Review

Thanks for the review.
I actully quite like the frigidaire 70 Pints features like the auto shutoff and the bucket full indicator. I tend to leave mine on and forget about it, so it handy for me.
Excellent review. I'd have to agree that the Frigidaire FAD704TDP is a top-notch model to own for a home.
